## Soulforging
<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;">To walk beneath the Eternal Night is to awaken not just a memory, but a purpose.
Soulforging is the rite by which a player stabilizes their form within the Veil, a blend of memory, identity, and spark.</span>

## Your Dual Identities
<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;"> In Eternal Night, you are not playing just one character — you are playing two.
The person sitting behind the VR headset, logging into Eternal Night. They have a life outside the game, with reasons for immersing themselves in this digital world.
The character you have created within the game, a wandering spirit bound to Yureihara, shaping its fate.
Just as the Twilight Fracture has blurred the lines between reality and the game world, so too will your characters evolve, influencing each other in ways both subtle and profound.</span>
**The following questions are designed to help you develop a backstory for this game.
It is also recommended you take some time aligning your character backstory to the lore of the [AT Echo Universe](https://atechoen.com/ATECHO/Home).**
| **Who Are You in 2050?** | **Who Are You in Yureihara?** |
| --- | --- |
| What name do you go by outside the game, and do you miss hearing it? | What is your character’s true goal? |
| What kind of city or place did you live in? | Are they seeking glory, escape, or truth? |
| What is your real-world life like? | How do they see Yureihara — battlefield, shrine, or cage? |
| Do you have a job, family, or obligations you left behind? | Do they think this world is real? |
| Are you a professional gamer, a corporate worker, or a drifter living in VR? | Why did you choose this class, what about it spoke to you? |
| Are you rich, poor, famous, or unknown? | What weakness does your class hide beneath the surface? |
| Did you feel seen in the real world, or invisible? | Why this species — what called you to embody it? |
| What did you expect Eternal Night to be? | What does your Marebito’s appearance reveal to others? |
| Why did you log into Eternal Night? | What details about you are hidden, only noticed by those who look closely? |
| Were you escaping reality — running from grief, debt, or failure? | Do you carry a symbol, mark, or item that links you to your past? |
| Were you chasing something — fame, mastery, connection? | What memory of reality haunts them here? |
| Did you come alone, or did someone bring you here? | Who do they trust in this fractured realm? |
| What part of yourself have you only discovered because of Yureihara? | Are they bound to a faction, a spirit, or no one? |
| | What did you hope to find here that real life could not give you? |
| | What would you sacrifice to keep your new identity? |

## Roleplay and Social Etiquette
<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;">The Terminal does not merely receive input. It listens, interprets, and echoes back the shape of your legend.
In Eternal Night, your words are the code, and the code shapes reality.</span>
>>This game may not be what you're used to, and that is by design.
>>
>>Eternal Night is built for immersive, character-driven roleplay shaped by introspection, cinematic storytelling, and the blurred boundary between myth and memory. The tone is deliberate, the stakes are personal, and your words are part of the world’s code. Your character’s fears, flaws, and desires are not just background, they are the fuel that drives the story forward.
>>
>>You are not expected to be perfect. You are expected to be present. I will support you as you grow into this style, whether you're learning to speak as your character, describing your choices more vividly, or exploring who they truly are beneath the surface.
>>
>>This is a space for role-players who want to create something unforgettable. I'm glad you're here.
>>GM Erys
> [!column | no-title | 2]
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Speak in Action, Not in Inquiry
>> Do not ask what your character sees or knows. Declare what they do or attempt.
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "Can I see the name of the tavern?"
>> Say:
>> "I scan the weathered signage, eyes narrowing as I try to catch the tavern's name."
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "Am I 30 feet from the wall?"
>> Say:
>> "I eye the crumbling wall, gauging my distance from it."
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "Can I make a History check on this ruin?"
>> Say:
>> "I study the ancient stonework, tracing my memory for the forgotten empires that carved these symbols."
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "What’s around me?"
>> Say:
>> "I sweep my gaze across the plaza, searching for movement behind the fog and torchlight."
>
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Describe What Your Character Does
>> Treat your actions as if you are the protagonist in a living novel.
>> Combat and spellcasting are not character sheet entries. They are cinematic, vivid, and visceral.
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "I cast Fireball."
>> Say:
>> "With a flourish of my scorched hand, I conjure a blazing sphere of flame, hurling it into my enemy."
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "I attack with my sword."
>> Say:
>> "I drive the edge of my gleaming blade forward"
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "I use Eldritch Blast."
>> Say:
>> "I thrust my palm forward, channeling a surge of violet energy that tears through the air"
>>
>> ✅ Instead of:
>> "I cast Healing Word."
>> Say:
>> "I speak a threadbare verse from a forgotten lullaby, and soft light blooms around my ally, mending their wounds."
>
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Avoid Meta Language
>> In *Eternal Night*, you are not a player at a table. You are a soul-forged warrior, a data-echoed mystic, a living anomaly.
>>
>> ❌ Avoid:
>> "What does my character know about this monster?"
>> ✅ Try:
>> "My eyes narrow as I recall ghosted fragments of corrupted bestiaries, trying to recognize the twisting form before me."
>>
>> ❌ Avoid:
>> "Can I roll Insight to see if they’re lying?"
>> ✅ Try:
>> "I watch their eyes, noting the shift in their tone, the hesitation between words, searching for cracks in their truth."
>>
>> ❌ Avoid:
>> "Can I make a Perception check?"
>> ✅ Try:
>> "I pause at the threshold, ears straining for footsteps in the dark, breath held as I scan the gloom for signs of movement."
>
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Interfacing with the Game World
>> The Terminal accepts only *in-character* input.
>> When speaking to the world or its denizens, remain within the lens of the game’s reality.
>>
>> ✅ In-character:
>> "I kneel beside the fractured idol, running my fingers along its etched lines as I whisper a prayer to whatever still listens."
>>
>> ✅ In-character:
>> "I approach the merchant with a wary smile, fingers drumming on the hilt of my blade as I inquire about the black-veined potions."
>>
>> ✅ In-character:
>> "I lower my hood and nod politely, asking the guards if any travelers passed through with a silver crescent on their cloak."
Roleplay in Eternal Night is not decoration. It is the mechanism of power, the way by which the world knows you exist.
Every action you describe strengthens your connection to the code of Yureihara. The better you embody your legend, the clearer your signal becomes in the shadow of the Eternal Night.

## Table Rules
<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;">A shared world must be navigated with shared intent. Walk in harmony, and the story will unfold.</span>
These rules ensure every session of Eternal Night remains immersive, fair, and emotionally resonant.

>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Table Rules
>> **🏮 Roleplay Focused**
>> This table prioritizes staying in character during gameplay.
>> Please prioritize speaking as your character.
>> Keep meta-discussion to a minimum.
>>
>> **🏮 Turn Efficiency**
>> You have a short duration to act during your turn in combat.
>> Know your racial traits, class features, spells, etc.
>> Player coordination via chat channels is encouraged.
>> **Consistent delays may result in forfeiting your turn.**
>>
>> **🏮 Character Integrity**
>> If it’s not written on your character sheet, it doesn’t exist.
>>
>> **🏮 Heroic Last Stand**
>> At 0 HP, you may make one final melee weapon attack on a nearby enemy.
>>
>> **🏮 Private Death Saves**
>> Roll death saves privately and report them to the GM.
>>
>> **🏮 MAIKO’s Inspiration**
>> You may hold up to 2 inspiration. Each can be used to:
>> - Gain advantage or disadvantage **before** a roll
>> - Add or subtract a 1d6 after any roll
>> - Use your inspiration for yourself or give it to another player
>> Inspiration does not stack and cannot be used on enemy rolls.
>>
>> **🏮 Game Mistress Authority**
>> The Game Mistress (GM) is the final arbiter of all in-game decisions.
>> Rules disputes should be raised respectfully after the session.
>> Reminders to the GM about small mistakes are always welcome.
>
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Table Etiquette & Storytelling Culture
>> **⛩️ Know the Basics**
>> Be familiar with [the core rules](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024).
>> You don't have to have them memorized but you should be familiar.
>>
>> **⛩️ Be On Time**
>> Try to arrive 10 minutes early so you have time to settle in and prepare.
>> Let the GM know in advance if you’ll be late or absent.
>>
>> **⛩️ Share the Air**
>> This is an ensemble cast. Avoid main character syndrome.
>> Invite others into the spotlight. Collaborative arcs make better stories.
>>
>> **⛩️ PG-13ish Tone**
>> Avoid crude, graphic, or inappropriate humor.
>> Keep romantic content PG and non-disruptive.
>>
>> **⛩️ Use Safety Tools Anytime**
>> Your comfort matters more than any scene.
>> You can speak up anytime during or after play.
>>
>> **⛩️ Recognize and Respect Character Bleed**
>> Strong emotions may linger after a scene. That’s okay.
>> Talk with the GM or your fellow players if something stuck with you.
>> You are more important than the story.
>> But remember, you are accountable for your behavior.
>>
>> **⛩️ Play the Game, Don’t Game the Players**
>> No metagaming, no PvP.
>> Make choices based on your character’s knowledge, not your own.
>>
>> **⛩️ Digital Table Etiquette**
>> Use headphones. Mute when not speaking.
>> Check your audio before each session. Use text chat to support gameplay.
>>
>> **⛩️ Conflict Resolution**
>> Everyone at the table is responsible for resolving conflict respectfully.
>> Bring personal concerns to the GM privately after the session.
>
>> [!example| no-title]+
>> ## Player Conduct
>> **🏯 Alcohol and Drugs**
>> Lack of focus, roleplay or engagement at the table due to alcohol and drug use may cause your game invitation to be rescinded. Your drug or alcohol use should not negatively impact the game. Please be mindful of anything that compromises player behavior and group safety.
>>
>> **🏯 Secrets**
>> Characters may have secrets from one another, but players should not hide major plot-impacting information from the GM. All secrets should serve the story, not sabotage it. The GM reserves the right to veto disruptive secrets.
>>
>> **🏯 Player Agency**
>> Player agency is respected. You control your character's decisions unless there is a narrative or magical justification otherwise, and even then, you will be consulted or warned. No surprise mind control, or transformations without prior discussion.
>>
>> **🏯 Game Balance and Encounter Design**
>> Balance is narrative-informed. You may walk into dangerous situations under your own power. The world is not scaled to you, but it is fair. Clear clues, context, and opportunities to retreat will be provided.
>>
>> **🏯 Minmaxing**
>> Optimization is welcome if done with story integration and party cohesion in mind. Power gaming at the expense of others’ enjoyment is not permitted. All builds must support group play.
>>
>> **🏯 Party Fit**
>> Loner characters are fine if they have a reason to cooperate. Characters must have narrative motivation to stay with the party. No "I’m just here for the loot" personalities without effort to connect.
>>
>> **🏯 Murder Hobos**
>> No Murder Hobos. Random violence against NPCs or constant property destruction will lead to consequences in-world. If it becomes disruptive, the GM may remove the player.

## Session 0 - Expectations, Boundaries and Tone
<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;">"Before the first roll, before the first name is spoken, we decide what kind of tale we’re telling, together."</span>>
Session 0 is where we talk about what to expect, what kind of characters you’re creating, how you want the game to feel, and how we’ll treat each other at the table. It is not just rules and checkboxes, it is how we make sure **everyone is on the same page** before the real journey begins.
By the end of this session, we will have reviewed:
- Gameplay Expectations
- Roleplaying Backstory
- Table Limit Review
- Foundry VTT Review
**Note:** I will share my screen and host a presentation that will allow us to talk through each topic.
This is your chance to ask questions, bring up concerns, and help shape how the game will run.

The following tools, expectations, and commitments are here to ensure a respectful, welcoming game for everyone involved.
**🎐 Group Agreement**
Playing in this game means agreeing to:
- Respect others' boundaries without question
- Use safety tools when needed, and support others when they do
- Avoid joking about trauma, phobias, or marginalized identities
- Contribute to a collaborative, non-adversarial story
**🎐 My DMs are Always Open**
If something in the game makes you uncomfortable or crosses a boundary, send me a private message right away.
I will pause the session and check in with you directly.
No visual cards or public alerts are needed.
Please use this process honestly. Safety tools are here to protect your well-being, not to avoid consequences or shift the narrative.
If you are unsure whether something is worth bringing up, send the message anyway. You do not need to wait until the session ends.
**🎐 Consent and Content Limits**
We utilize the [Consent in Gaming Checklist](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lnt8tuHi9BR3-xR9n67B2CLhrs9kSenO/view?usp=sharing) to help set shared boundaries.
This is required through the application process and should be completed as accurately and completely as possible.
**🎐 Default Table Limits**
Allowed content:
- PG-13 tone
- Light fantasy violence
- Banter, dancing, drinking, and teasing fun
- Flirtation and romance (consensual, fade to black)
Banned content:
- Spiders and most other insects
- PvP combat
- Evil-aligned PCs
- Gore, graphic violence, or torture
- Explicit sex scenes
- Pregnancy
- Harm to children or animals
- Non-consensual romance or sex
- Real-life religion or real-life bigotry
**🎐 If Something Goes Wrong**
- If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe, tell me
- If a player crosses a boundary, I will address it privately and firmly
- You will never be asked to defend your feelings or your response
- I will always prioritize player safety over continuing a scene or storyline
You belong here. You are safe here. And you are not alone.
If you are ever unsure whether to bring something up, do it anyway. I want to hear from you.

<span style="color: #D4A4ED; font-style: oblique;">"Reflection is how the story refines itself. What we praise, we grow. What we wish for, we shape."</span>
When the story settles and the last action fades, we pause — not to judge, but to reflect. This is where we take a moment to name what worked, and share what we hope to see in the future.
**Stars and Wishes** is a simple anonymous method we use after each session to give thoughtful, useful feedback. It creates space for everyone’s voice and helps the game evolve into something even stronger.
🎐 **Stars**
**Things you really enjoyed during the session.**
These can include strong roleplay moments, creative problem-solving, great pacing, exciting encounters, emotional beats, or just something that made you smile.
🎐 **Wishes**
**Things you’d like to see more of or experience differently in the future.**
They could be story directions, more time for certain characters, clearer mechanics, different pacing, or tone adjustments.
🎐 **Stars and Wishes Form**
You can share feedback here: [Stars & Wishes: Session Feedback](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfCxUps9r0cS7d0iJyb_zmlfYV3txiSgex3T04tTe5bErit5w/viewform?usp=header)
This tool isn't about criticism, it’s about collaboration.
The GM shares stars and wishes too, and everyone’s input matters equally. This feedback makes space for better communication, stronger stories, and a more connected table.
